Today we went for a half day horseback ride with a company called “Los Pingos”.
A van came to pick us up at the hotel and we also picked up another 10 people from the UK, the US and the Netherlands. We drove to the north of the city limits and down a dirt road through desert brush. Our horses were all saddled up and ready to go, so off we went along a trail up and down some small hills in the desert.
There were lots of cactus, brush and thorny bushes (best to wear long pants!). It was a scene out of some old cowboy (called gauchos here) movie.
After about two hours, we arrived at a lunch spot where half of us were being picked up and driven back to the city. The other half was having a roasted meat lunch and doing an afternoon ride. So we said goodbye to our horses and hopped back in the van to town for lunch. We were kinda glad to do only a half day ride as my bum may not have survived trotting a couple more hours….but it was a beautiful ride. We were in another world, yet just 40 minutes from downtown. It’s incredible how quickly the scenery can change.
Here’s a few photos from today.
